2018-09-20mtd: move NAND files into a raw/ subdirectoryMiquel Raynal
NAND flavors, like serial and parallel, have a lot in common and would benefit to share code. Let's move raw (parallel) NAND specific code in a raw/ subdirectory, to ease the addition of a core file in nand/ and the introduction of a spi/ subdirectory specific to SPI NANDs. `nand_get_flash_type()` allows identification of supported NAND flashs. The function is useful in SPL (like mxs_nand_spl.c) to lookup for a NAND flash (which does not support ONFi) instead of using nand_simple.c and hard-coding all required NAND parameters. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: introduce NAND_ROW_ADDR_3 flagMasahiro Yamada
Several drivers check ->chipsize to see if the third row address cycle is needed. Instead of embedding magic sizes such as 32MB, 128MB in drivers, introduce a new flag NAND_ROW_ADDR_3 for clean-up. Since nand_scan_ident() knows well about the device, it can handle this properly. The flag is set if the row address bit width is greater than 16. Delete comments such as "One more address cycle for ..." because intention is now clear enough from the code. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: add generic helpers to check, match, maximize ECC settingsMasahiro Yamada
Driver are responsible for setting up ECC parameters correctly. Those include: - Check if ECC parameters specified (usually by DT) are valid - Meet the chip's ECC requirement - Maximize ECC strength if NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE flag is set The logic can be generalized by factoring out common code. This commit adds 3 helpers to the NAND framework: nand_check_ecc_caps - Check if preset step_size and strength are valid nand_match_ecc_req - Match the chip's requirement nand_maximize_ecc - Maximize the ECC strength To use the helpers above, a driver needs to provide: - Data array of supported ECC step size and strength - A hook that calculates ECC bytes from the combination of step_size and strength. By using those helpers, code duplication among drivers will be reduced. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: allow drivers to request minimum alignment for passed bufferMasahiro Yamada
In some cases, nand_do_{read,write}_ops is passed with unaligned ops->datbuf. Drivers using DMA will be unhappy about unaligned buffer. The new struct member, buf_align, represents the minimum alignment the driver require for the buffer. If the buffer passed from the upper MTD layer does not have enough alignment, nand_do_*_ops will use bufpoi. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: Fix data interface configuration logicBoris Brezillon
When changing from one data interface setting to another, one has to ensure a specific sequence which is described in the ONFI spec. One of these constraints is that the CE line has go high after a reset before a command can be sent with the new data interface setting, which is not guaranteed by the current implementation. Rework the nand_reset() function and all the call sites to make sure the CE line is asserted and released when required. Also make sure to actually apply the new data interface setting on the first die. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: automate NAND timings selectionBoris Brezillon
The NAND framework provides several helpers to query timing modes supported by a NAND chip, but this implies that all NAND controller drivers have to implement the same timings selection dance. Also currently NAND devices can be resetted at arbitrary places which also resets the timing for ONFI chips to timing mode 0. Provide a common logic to select the best timings based on ONFI or ->onfi_timing_mode_default information. Hook this into nand_reset() to make sure the new timing is applied each time during a reset. NAND controller willing to support timings adjustment should just implement the ->setup_data_interface() method. 2017-11-29mtd: nand: Create a NAND reset functionSascha Hauer
When NAND devices are resetted some initialization may have to be done, like for example they have to be configured for the timing mode that shall be used. To get a common place where this initialization can be implemented create a nand_reset() function. This currently only issues a NAND_CMD_RESET to the NAND device. The places issuing this command manually are replaced with a call to nand_reset(). 2017-11-29mtd: nand: Add an option to maximize the ECC strengthBoris Brezillon
The generic NAND DT bindings allows one to tweak the ECC strength and step size to their need. It can be used to lower the ECC strength to match a bootloader/firmware config, but might also be used to get a better reliability. In the latter case, the user might want to use the maximum ECC strength without having to explicitly calculate the exact value (this value not only depends on the OOB size, but also on the NAND controller, and can be tricky to extract). Add a generic 'nand-ecc-maximize' DT property and the associated NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE flag, to let ECC controller drivers select the best ECC strength and step-size on their own. Set Features (0xEF) command toggles the R/B# pin after 4 sub feature parameters are written. Currently, nand_command(_lp) calls chip->dev_ready immediately after the address cycle because NAND_CMD_SET_FEATURES falls into default: label. No wait is needed at this point. If you see nand_onfi_set_features(), R/B# is already cared by the chip->waitfunc call. 2016-07-24mtd: nand: fix bug writing 1 byte less than page sizeHector Palacios
nand_do_write_ops() determines if it is writing a partial page with the formula: part_pagewr = (column || writelen < (mtd->writesize - 1)) When 'writelen' is exactly 1 byte less than the NAND page size the formula equates to zero, so the code doesn't process it as a partial write, although it should. As a consequence the function remains in the while(1) loop with 'writelen' becoming 0xffffffff and iterating until the watchdog timeout triggers. These are already-documented common bindings for NAND chips. Let's handle them in nand_base. If NAND controller drivers need to act on this data before bringing up the NAND chip (e.g., fill out ECC callback functions, change HW modes, etc.), then they can do so between calling nand_scan_ident() and nand_scan_tail(). The original commit has been slightly reworked to use the fdtdec_xxx() helpers (instead of the of_xxxx() ones). In addition to mtd_block_isbad(), which checks if a block is bad or reserved, it's needed to check if a block is reserved only (but not bad). This commit adds an MTD interface for it, in a similar fashion to mtd_block_isbad(). While here, fix mtd_block_isbad() so the out-of-bounds checking is done before the callback check. 2015-01-09mtd: nand: do not scan BBT after scrubMasahiro Yamada
Currently, "nand scrub" runs chip->scan_bbt at the end of nand_erase_opts() even if NAND_SKIP_BBTSCAN flag is set. It violates the intention of NAND_SKIP_BBTSCAN. Move NAND_SKIP_BBTSCAN flag check to nand_block_checkbad() so that chip->scan_bbt() is never run if NAND_SKIP_BBTSCAN is set. Also, unset NAND_BBT_SCANNED flag instead of running chip->scan_bbt() right after scrub. We can be lazier here because the BBT is scanned at the next call of nand_block_checkbad(). Commit 35c204d8a9d0 (nand: reinstate lazy bad block scanning) broke NAND_BBT_USE_FLASH feature. Its git-log claimed that it reinstated the change as by commit fb49454b1b6c ("nand: reinstate lazy bad block scanning"), but it moved "chip->options |= NAND_BBT_SCANNED" below "chip->scan_bbt(mtd);". It causes recursion if scan_bbt does not find a flash based BBT and tries to write one, and the attempt to erase the BBT area causes a bad block check. Reinstate commit ff49ea8977b5 (NAND: Mark the BBT as scanned prior to calling scan_bbt.). U-Boot has imported various source files from other projects, mostly Linux. Something like #ifdef __UBOOT__ [ modification for U-Boot ] #else [ original code ] #endif is an often used strategy for clarification of adjusted parts, that is, easier re-sync in future. As per following Sections in ONFI Spec, NAND_CMD_READID should use only lower 8-bit for transfering command, address and data even on x16 NAND device. *Section: Target Initialization" "The Read ID and Read Parameter Page commands only use the lower 8-bits of the data bus. The host shall not issue commands that use a word data width on x16 devices until the host determines the device supports a 16-bit data bus width in the parameter page." *Section: Bus Width Requirements* "When the host supports a 16-bit bus width, only data is transferred at the 16-bit width. All address and command line transfers shall use only the lower 8-bits of the data bus. During command transfers, the host may place any value on the upper 8-bits of the data bus. During address transfers, the host shall set the upper 8-bits of the data bus to 00h." 2013-10-09mtd: driver _read() returns max_bitflips; mtd_read() returns -EUCLEANPaul Burton
Linux modified the MTD driver interface in commit edbc4540 (with the same name as this commit). The effect is that calls to mtd_read will not return -EUCLEAN if the number of ECC-corrected bit errors is below a certain threshold, which defaults to the strength of the ECC. This allows -EUCLEAN to stop indicating "some bits were corrected" and begin indicating "a large number of bits were corrected, the data held in this region of flash may be lost soon". UBI makes use of this and when -EUCLEAN is returned from mtd_read it will move data to another block of flash. Without adopting this interface change UBI on U-boot attempts to move data between blocks every time a single bit is corrected using the ECC, which is a very common occurance on some devices. For some devices where bit errors are common enough, UBI can get stuck constantly moving data around because each block it attempts to use has a single bit error. This condition is hit when wear_leveling_worker attempts to move data from one PEB to another in response to an -EUCLEAN/UBI_IO_BITFLIPS error. When this happens ubi_eba_copy_leb is called to perform the data copy, and after the data is written it is read back to check its validity. If that read returns UBI_IO_BITFLIPS (in response to an MTD -EUCLEAN) then ubi_eba_copy_leb returns 1 to wear_leveling worker, which then proceeds to schedule the destination PEB for erasure. This leads to erase_worker running on the PEB, and following a successful erase wear_leveling_worker is called which begins this whole cycle all over again. The end result is that (without UBI debug output enabled) the boot appears to simply hang whilst in reality U-boot busily works away at destroying a block of the NAND flash. This patch is essentially an update of u-boot MTD subsystem to the state of Linux-3.7.1 with exclusion of some bits: - the update is concentrated on NAND, no onenand or CFI/NOR/SPI flashes interfaces are updated EXCEPT for API changes. - new large NAND chips support is there, though some updates have got in Linux-3.8.-rc1, (which will follow on top of this patch). To produce this update I used tag v3.7.1 of linux-stable repository. The update was made using application of relevant patches, with changes relevant to U-Boot-only stuff sticked together to keep bisectability. Then all changes were grouped together to this patch.
