io_apic_ops.init() is either NULL, if IO-APIC support is disabled at compile time or native_io_apic_init_mappings(). No point to have that as we can achieve the same thing with an empty inline. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

x86_io_apic_ops.write is always set to native_io_apic_write(), and nobody overrides it. So get rid of the indirection by changing native_io_apic_write() as io_apic_write() and removing x86_io_apic_ops.write. Do the same for x86_io_apic_ops.modify and native_io_apic_modify(). 2014-11-11Revert "PCI: Add x86_msi.msi_mask_irq() and msix_mask_irq()"Yijing Wang
The problem fixed by 0e4ccb1505a9 ("PCI: Add x86_msi.msi_mask_irq() and msix_mask_irq()") has been fixed in a simpler way by a previous commit ("PCI/MSI: Add pci_msi_ignore_mask to prevent writes to MSI/MSI-X Mask Bits"). The msi_mask_irq() and msix_mask_irq() x86_msi_ops added by 0e4ccb1505a9 are no longer needed, so revert the commit. default_msi_mask_irq() and default_msix_mask_irq() were added by 0e4ccb1505a9 and are still used by s390, so keep them for now. 2013-12-13PCI: Drop "irq" param from *_restore_msi_irqs()DuanZhenzhong
Change x86_msi.restore_msi_irqs(struct pci_dev *dev, int irq) to x86_msi.restore_msi_irqs(struct pci_dev *dev). restore_msi_irqs() restores multiple MSI-X IRQs, so param 'int irq' is unneeded. This makes code more consistent between vm and bare metal. Dom0 MSI-X restore code can also be optimized as XEN only has a hypercall to restore all MSI-X vectors at one time. 2013-11-06PCI: Add x86_msi.msi_mask_irq() and msix_mask_irq()Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk
Certain platforms do not allow writes in the MSI-X BARs to setup or tear down vector values. To combat against the generic code trying to write to that and either silently being ignored or crashing due to the pagetables being marked R/O this patch introduces a platform override. Note that we keep two separate, non-weak, functions default_mask_msi_irqs() and default_mask_msix_irqs() for the behavior of the arch_mask_msi_irqs() and arch_mask_msix_irqs(), as the default behavior is needed by x86 PCI code. For Xen, which does not allow the guest to write to MSI-X tables - as the hypervisor is solely responsible for setting the vector values - we implement two nops. This fixes a Xen guest crash when passing a PCI device with MSI-X to the guest. See the bugzilla for more details. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/swarren/linux-tegra into next/soc From: Stephen Warren: ARM: tegra: core SoC enhancements for 3.12 This branch includes a number of enhancements to core SoC support for Tegra devices. The major new features are: * Adds a new CPU-power-gated cpuidle state for Tegra114. * Adds initial system suspend support for Tegra114, initially supporting just CPU-power-gating during suspend. * Adds "LP1" suspend mode support for all of Tegra20/30/114. This mode both gates CPU power, and places the DRAM into self-refresh mode. * A new DT-driven PCIe driver to Tegra20/30. The driver is also moved from arch/arm/mach-tegra/ to drivers/pci/host/. 2013-08-12PCI: use weak functions for MSI arch-specific functionsThomas Petazzoni
Until now, the MSI architecture-specific functions could be overloaded using a fairly complex set of #define and compile-time conditionals. In order to prepare for the introduction of the msi_chip infrastructure, it is desirable to switch all those functions to use the 'weak' mechanism. This commit converts all the architectures that were overidding those MSI functions to use the new strategy. Note that we keep two separate, non-weak, functions default_teardown_msi_irqs() and default_restore_msi_irqs() for the default behavior of the arch_teardown_msi_irqs() and arch_restore_msi_irqs(), as the default behavior is needed by x86 PCI code. 2013-07-14x86: delete __cpuinit usage from all x86 filesPaul Gortmaker
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. This removes all the arch/x86 uses of the __cpuinit macros from all C files. x86 only had the one __CPUINIT used in assembly files, and it wasn't paired off with a .previous or a __FINIT, so we can delete it directly w/o any corresponding additional change there. 2013-02-21Merge branch 'x86-mm-for-linus' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull x86 mm changes from Peter Anvin: "This is a huge set of several partly interrelated (and concurrently developed) changes, which is why the branch history is messier than one would like. The *really* big items are two humonguous patchsets mostly developed by Yinghai Lu at my request, which completely revamps the way we create initial page tables. In particular, rather than estimating how much memory we will need for page tables and then build them into that memory -- a calculation that has shown to be incredibly fragile -- we now build them (on 64 bits) with the aid of a "pseudo-linear mode" -- a #PF handler which creates temporary page tables on demand. This has several advantages: 1. It makes it much easier to support things that need access to data very early (a followon patchset uses this to load microcode way early in the kernel startup). 2. It allows the kernel and all the kernel data objects to be invoked from above the 4 GB limit. This allows kdump to work on very large systems. 3. It greatly reduces the difference between Xen and native (Xen's equivalent of the #PF handler are the temporary page tables created by the domain builder), eliminating a bunch of fragile hooks. The patch series also gets us a bit closer to W^X. Additional work in this pull is the 64-bit get_user() work which you were also involved with, and a bunch of cleanups/speedups to __phys_addr()/__pa()." * 'x86-mm-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (105 commits) x86, mm: Move reserving low memory later in initialization x86, doc: Clarify the use of asm("%edx") in uaccess.h x86, mm: Redesign get_user with a __builtin_choose_expr hack x86: Be consistent with data size in getuser.S x86, mm: Use a bitfield to mask nuisance get_user() warnings x86/kvm: Fix compile warning in kvm_register_steal_time() x86-32: Add support for 64bit get_user() x86-32, mm: Remove reference to alloc_remap() x86-32, mm: Remove reference to resume_map_numa_kva() x86-32, mm: Rip out x86_32 NUMA remapping code x86/numa: Use __pa_nodebug() instead x86: Don't panic if can not alloc buffer for swiotlb mm: Add alloc_bootmem_low_pages_nopanic() x86, 64bit, mm: hibernate use generic mapping_init x86, 64bit, mm: Mark data/bss/brk to nx x86: Merge early kernel reserve for 32bit and 64bit x86: Add Crash kernel low reservation x86, kdump: Remove crashkernel range find limit for 64bit memblock: Add memblock_mem_size() x86, boot: Not need to check setup_header version for setup_data ...

2012-03-20x86: kvmclock: abstract save/restore sched_clock_stateMarcelo Tosatti
Upon resume from hibernation, CPU 0's hvclock area contains the old values for system_time and tsc_timestamp. It is necessary for the hypervisor to update these values with uptodate ones before the CPU uses them. Abstract TSC's save/restore sched_clock_state functions and use restore_state to write to KVM_SYSTEM_TIME MSR, forcing an update. Also move restore_sched_clock_state before __restore_processor_state, since the later calls CONFIG_LOCK_STAT's lockstat_clock (also for TSC). Thanks to Igor Mammedov for tracking it down. 2012-03-05x86: Introduce x86_cpuinit.early_percpu_clock_init hookIgor Mammedov
When kvm guest uses kvmclock, it may hang on vcpu hot-plug. This is caused by an overflow in pvclock_get_nsec_offset, u64 delta = tsc - shadow->tsc_timestamp; which in turn is caused by an undefined values from percpu hv_clock that hasn't been initialized yet. Uninitialized clock on being booted cpu is accessed from start_secondary -> smp_callin -> smp_store_cpu_info -> identify_secondary_cpu -> mtrr_ap_init -> mtrr_restore -> stop_machine_from_inactive_cpu -> queue_stop_cpus_work ... -> sched_clock -> kvm_clock_read which is well before x86_cpuinit.setup_percpu_clockev call in start_secondary, where percpu clock is initialized. This patch introduces a hook that allows to setup/initialize per_cpu clock early and avoid overflow due to reading - undefined values - old values if cpu was offlined and then onlined again Another possible early user of this clock source is ftrace that accesses it to get timestamps for ring buffer entries. So if mtrr_ap_init is moved from identify_secondary_cpu to past x86_cpuinit.setup_percpu_clockev in start_secondary, ftrace may cause the same overflow/hang on cpu hot-plug anyway. 2011-05-12x86,xen: introduce x86_init.mapping.pagetable_reserveStefano Stabellini
Introduce a new x86_init hook called pagetable_reserve that at the end of init_memory_mapping is used to reserve a range of memory addresses for the kernel pagetable pages we used and free the other ones. On native it just calls memblock_x86_reserve_range while on xen it also takes care of setting the spare memory previously allocated for kernel pagetable pages from RO to RW, so that it can be used for other purposes. A detailed explanation of the reason why this hook is needed follows. As a consequence of the commit: commit 4b239f458c229de044d6905c2b0f9fe16ed9e01e Author: Yinghai Lu <yinghai@kernel.org> Date: Fri Dec 17 16:58:28 2010 -0800 x86-64, mm: Put early page table high at some point init_memory_mapping is going to reach the pagetable pages area and map those pages too (mapping them as normal memory that falls in the range of addresses passed to init_memory_mapping as argument). Some of those pages are already pagetable pages (they are in the range pgt_buf_start-pgt_buf_end) therefore they are going to be mapped RO and everything is fine. Some of these pages are not pagetable pages yet (they fall in the range pgt_buf_end-pgt_buf_top; for example the page at pgt_buf_end) so they are going to be mapped RW. When these pages become pagetable pages and are hooked into the pagetable, xen will find that the guest has already a RW mapping of them somewhere and fail the operation. The reason Xen requires pagetables to be RO is that the hypervisor needs to verify that the pagetables are valid before using them. The validation operations are called "pinning" (more details in arch/x86/xen/mmu.c). In order to fix the issue we mark all the pages in the entire range pgt_buf_start-pgt_buf_top as RO, however when the pagetable allocation is completed only the range pgt_buf_start-pgt_buf_end is reserved by init_memory_mapping. Hence the kernel is going to crash as soon as one of the pages in the range pgt_buf_end-pgt_buf_top is reused (b/c those ranges are RO). For this reason we need a hook to reserve the kernel pagetable pages we used and free the other ones so that they can be reused for other purposes. On native it just means calling memblock_x86_reserve_range, on Xen it also means marking RW the pagetable pages that we allocated before but that haven't been used before. Another way to fix this is without using the hook is by adding a 'if (xen_pv_domain)' in the 'init_memory_mapping' code and calling the Xen counterpart, but that is just nasty. 2010-02-19x86: Move pci init function to x86_initThomas Gleixner
The PCI initialization in pci_subsys_init() is a mess. pci_numaq_init, pci_acpi_init, pci_visws_init and pci_legacy_init are called and each implementation checks and eventually modifies the global variable pcibios_scanned. x86_init functions allow us to do this more elegant. The pci.init function pointer is preset to pci_legacy_init. numaq, acpi and visws can modify the pointer in their early setup functions. The functions return 0 when they did the full initialization including bus scan. A non zero return value indicates that pci_legacy_init needs to be called either because the selected function failed or wants the generic bus scan in pci_legacy_init to happen (e.g. visws).
