2014-07-01Remove concept of top/bottom image loadingSandrine Bailleux
This concept is no longer required since we now support loading of images at fixed addresses only. The image loader now automatically detects the position of the image inside the current memory layout and updates the layout such that memory fragmentation is minimised. The 'attr' field of the meminfo data structure, which used to hold the bottom/top loading information, has been removed. Also the 'next' field has been removed as it wasn't used anywhere. The 'init_bl2_mem_layout()' function has been moved out of common code and put in BL1-specific code. It has also been renamed into 'bl1_init_bl2_mem_layout'. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#109 Change-Id: I3f54642ce7b763d5ee3b047ad0ab59eabbcf916d
2014-05-29Allow platform parameter X1 to be passed to BL3-1Andrew Thoelke
bl2_main() was overwriting any platform set X1 parameter for BL3-1 with the value zero. This patch ensure that any platform set value is correctly passed to BL3-1. The FVP port adds a check to verify this parameter is being passed correctly. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#173 Change-Id: Ifbcda73d3d41d2b04a4baf5614e9d2d21f1717c8
2014-05-23Move BL porting functions into platform.hDan Handley
Some platform porting functions were in BL specific header files. These have been moved to platform.h so that all porting functions are in the same place. The functions are now grouped by BL. Obsolete BL headers files have been removed. Also, the weak declaration of the init_bl2_mem_layout() function has been moved out the header file and into the source file (bl_common.c) using the more succinct #pragma syntax. This mitigates the risk of 2 weak definitions being created and the wrong one being picked up by the compiler. Change-Id: Ib19934939fd755f3e5a5a5bceec88da684308a83
2014-05-23Split platform.h into separate headersDan Handley
Previously, platform.h contained many declarations and definitions used for different purposes. This file has been split so that: * Platform definitions used by common code that must be defined by the platform are now in platform_def.h. The exact include path is exported through $PLAT_INCLUDES in the platform makefile. * Platform definitions specific to the FVP platform are now in /plat/fvp/fvp_def.h. * Platform API declarations specific to the FVP platform are now in /plat/fvp/fvp_private.h. * The remaining platform API declarations that must be ported by each platform are still in platform.h but this file has been moved to /include/plat/common since this can be shared by all platforms. 2014-05-23Remove extern keyword from function declarationsDan Handley
Function declarations implicitly have external linkage so do not need the extern keyword. Change-Id: Ia0549786796d8bf5956487e8996450a0b3d79f32

2014-05-23Make the memory layout more flexibleSandrine Bailleux
Currently the platform code gets to define the base address of each boot loader image. However, the linker scripts couteract this flexibility by enforcing a fixed overall layout of the different images. For example, they require that the BL3-1 image sits below the BL2 image. Choosing BL3-1 and BL2 base addresses in such a way that it violates this constraint makes the build fail at link-time. This patch requires the platform code to now define a limit address for each image. The linker scripts check that the image fits within these bounds so they don't rely anymore on the position of a given image in regard to the others. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#163 Change-Id: I8c108646825da19a6a8dfb091b613e1dd4ae133c
2014-05-22Allow BL3-2 platform definitions to be optionalDan Handley
The generic image loading and IO FIP code no longer forces the platform to create BL3-2 (Secure-EL1 Payload) specific definitions. The BL3-2 loading code in bl2/bl2main.c is wrapped by a #ifdef BL32_BASE blocks, allowing the BL3-2 definitions to be optional. Similarly for the name_uuid array defintion in drivers/io/io_fip.c. Also update the porting guide to reflect this change. The BL3-2 platform definitions remain non-configurably present in the FVP port. 2014-05-22Rework memory information passing to BL3-x imagesVikram Kanigiri
The issues addressed in this patch are: 1. Remove meminfo_t from the common interfaces in BL3-x, expecting that platform code will find a suitable mechanism to determine the memory extents in these images and provide it to the BL3-x images. 2. Remove meminfo_t and bl31_plat_params_t from all FVP BL3-x code as the images use link-time information to determine memory extents. meminfo_t is still used by common interface in BL1/BL2 for loading images Change-Id: I4e825ebf6f515b59d84dc2bdddf6edbf15e2d60f
2014-05-22Populate BL31 input parameters as per new specVikram Kanigiri
This patch is based on spec published at https://github.com/ARM-software/tf-issues/issues/133 It rearranges the bl31_args struct into bl31_params and bl31_plat_params which provide the information needed for Trusted firmware and platform specific data via x0 and x1 On the FVP platform BL3-1 params and BL3-1 plat params and its constituents are stored at the start of TZDRAM. The information about memory availability and size for BL3-1, BL3-2 and BL3-3 is moved into platform specific data. Change-Id: I8b32057a3d0dd3968ea26c2541a0714177820da9
2014-05-22Rework handover interface between BL stagesVikram Kanigiri
This patch reworks the handover interface from: BL1 to BL2 and BL2 to BL3-1. It removes the raise_el(), change_el(), drop_el() and run_image() functions as they catered for code paths that were never exercised. BL1 calls bl1_run_bl2() to jump into BL2 instead of doing the same by calling run_image(). Similarly, BL2 issues the SMC to transfer execution to BL3-1 through BL1 directly. Only x0 and x1 are used to pass arguments to BL31. These arguments and parameters for running BL3-1 are passed through a reference to a 'el_change_info_t' structure. They were being passed value in general purpose registers earlier. Change-Id: Id4fd019a19a9595de063766d4a66295a2c9307e1
2014-05-22Introduce macros to manipulate the SPSRVikram Kanigiri
This patch introduces macros (SPSR_64 and SPSR_32) to create a SPSR for both aarch32 and aarch64 execution states. These macros allow the user to set fields in the SPSR depending upon its format. The make_spsr() function which did not allow manipulation of all the fields in the aarch32 SPSR has been replaced by these new macros. Change-Id: I9425dda0923e8d5f03d03ddb8fa0e28392c4c61e
2014-05-07Access system registers directly in assemblerAndrew Thoelke
Instead of using the system register helper functions to read or write system registers, assembler coded functions should use MRS/MSR instructions. This results in faster and more compact code. This change replaces all usage of the helper functions with direct register accesses. Change-Id: I791d5f11f257010bb3e6a72c6c5ab8779f1982b3
2014-05-07Correct usage of data and instruction barriersAndrew Thoelke
The current code does not always use data and instruction barriers as required by the architecture and frequently uses barriers excessively due to their inclusion in all of the write_*() helper functions. Barriers should be used explicitly in assembler or C code when modifying processor state that requires the barriers in order to enable review of correctness of the code. This patch removes the barriers from the helper functions and introduces them as necessary elsewhere in the code. PORTING NOTE: check any port of Trusted Firmware for use of system register helper functions for reliance on the previous barrier behaviour and add explicit barriers as necessary. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#92 Change-Id: Ie63e187404ff10e0bdcb39292dd9066cb84c53bf
2014-05-06Reduce deep nesting of header filesDan Handley
Reduce the number of header files included from other header files as much as possible without splitting the files. Use forward declarations where possible. This allows removal of some unnecessary "#ifndef __ASSEMBLY__" statements. Also, review the .c and .S files for which header files really need including and reorder the #include statements alphabetically. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#31 Change-Id: Iec92fb976334c77453e010b60bcf56f3be72bd3e
2014-05-06Always use named structs in header filesDan Handley
Add tag names to all unnamed structs in header files. This allows forward declaration of structs, which is necessary to reduce header file nesting (to be implemented in a subsequent commit). Also change the typedef names across the codebase to use the _t suffix to be more conformant with the Linux coding style. The coding style actually prefers us not to use typedefs at all but this is considered a step too far for Trusted Firmware. Also change the IO framework structs defintions to use typedef'd structs to be consistent with the rest of the codebase. Change-Id: I722b2c86fc0d92e4da3b15e5cab20373dd26786f
2014-05-06Separate BL functions out of arch.hDan Handley
Move the BL function prototypes out of arch.h and into the appropriate header files to allow more efficient header file inclusion. Create new BL private header files where there is no sensible existing header file. Change-Id: I45f3e10b72b5d835254a6f25a5e47cf4cfb274c3
2014-05-06Remove vpath usage in makefilesDan Handley
Remove all usage of the vpath keyword in makefiles as it was prone to mistakes. Specify the relative paths to source files instead. Also reorder source files in makefiles alphabetically. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#121 Change-Id: Id15f60655444bae60e0e2165259efac71a50928b
2014-05-06Make use of user/system includes more consistentDan Handley
Make codebase consistent in its use of #include "" syntax for user includes and #include <> syntax for system includes. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#65 Change-Id: If2f7c4885173b1fd05ac2cde5f1c8a07000c7a33
2014-05-06Move include and source files to logical locationsDan Handley
Move almost all system include files to a logical sub-directory under ./include. The only remaining system include directories not under ./include are specific to the platform. Move the corresponding source files to match the include directory structure. Also remove pm.h as it is no longer used. Change-Id: Ie5ea6368ec5fad459f3e8a802ad129135527f0b3
2014-03-26Place assembler functions in separate sectionsAndrew Thoelke
This extends the --gc-sections behaviour to the many assembler support functions in the firmware images by placing each function into its own code section. This is achieved by creating a 'func' macro used to declare each function label. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#80 Change-Id: I301937b630add292d2dec6d2561a7fcfa6fec690
2014-03-26Use --gc-sections during linkAndrew Thoelke
All common functions are being built into all binary images, whether or not they are actually used. This change enables the use of -ffunction-sections, -fdata-sections and --gc-sections in the compiler and linker to remove unused code and data from the images. 2014-03-26Separate out BL2, BL3-1 and BL3-2 early exception vectors from BL1Sandrine Bailleux
bl1/aarch64/early_exceptions.S used to be re-used by BL2, BL3-1 and BL3-2. There was some early SMC handling code in there that was not required by the other bootloader stages. Therefore this patch introduces an even simpler exception vector source file for BL2, BL3-1 and BL3-2. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#38 Change-Id: I0244b80e9930b0f8035156a0bf91cc3e9a8f995d
2014-03-20Specify image entry in linker scriptJeenu Viswambharan
At present, the entry point for each BL image is specified via the Makefiles and provided on the command line to the linker. When using a link script the entry point should rather be specified via the ENTRY() directive in the link script. This patch updates linker scripts of all BL images to specify the entry point using the ENTRY() directive. It also removes the --entry flag passed to the linker through Makefile. 2014-03-05Generate build time and date message at link time.Jon Medhurst
So it updates each time a bootloader changes, not just when bl*_main.c files are recompiled. Fixes ARM-software/tf-issues#33 Change-Id: Ie8e1a7bd7e1913d2e96ac268606284f76af8c5ab Signed-off-by: Jon Medhurst <tixy@linaro.org>
2014-03-05Update Makefiles to get proper dependency checking working.Jon Medhurst
This change requires all platforms to now specify a list of source files rather than object files. New source files should preferably be specified by using the path as well and we should add this in the future for all files so we can remove use of vpath. This is desirable because vpath hides issues like the fact that BL2 currently pulls in a BL1 file bl1/aarch64/early_exceptions.S and if in the future we added bl2/aarch64/early_exceptions.S then it's likely only one of the two version would be used for both bootloaders. This change also removes the 'dump' build target and simply gets bootloaders to always generate a dump file. At the same time the -x option is added so the section headers and symbols table are listed. 2014-02-26Remove duplicate xlat_table descriptionsJeenu Viswambharan
The BL31 and BL2 linker scripts ended up having duplicate descriptions for xlat_tables section. This patch removes those duplicate descriptions. Change-Id: Ibbdda0902c57fca5ea4e91e0baefa6df8f0a9bb1
2014-02-20Factor out translation table setup in ARM FVP portAchin Gupta
This patch factors out the ARM FVP specific code to create MMU translation tables so that it is possible for a boot loader stage to create a different set of tables instead of using the default ones. The default translation tables are created with the assumption that the calling boot loader stage executes out of secure SRAM. This might not be true for the BL3_2 stage in the future. A boot loader stage can define the `fill_xlation_tables()` function as per its requirements. It returns a reference to the level 1 translation table which is used by the common platform code to setup the TTBR_EL3. This patch is a temporary solution before a larger rework of translation table creation logic is introduced. Change-Id: I09a075d5da16822ee32a411a9dbe284718fb4ff6
2014-02-20Add support for BL3-2 in BL2Achin Gupta
This patch adds support for loading a BL3-2 image in BL2. In case a BL3-2 image is found, it also passes information to BL3-1 about where it is located and the extents of memory available to it. Information about memory extents is populated by platform specific code. The documentation has also been updated to reflect the above changes. 2014-02-20Rework BL2 to BL3-1 hand over interfaceAchin Gupta
This patch reworks BL2 to BL3-1 hand over interface by introducing a composite structure (bl31_args) that holds the superset of information that needs to be passed from BL2 to BL3-1. - The extents of secure memory available to BL3-1 - The extents of memory available to BL3-2 (not yet implemented) and BL3-3 - Information to execute BL3-2 (not yet implemented) and BL3-3 images This patch also introduces a new platform API (bl2_get_bl31_args_ptr) that needs to be implemented by the platform code to export reference to bl31_args structure which has been allocated in platform-defined memory. The platform will initialize the extents of memory available to BL3-3 during early platform setup in bl31_args structure. This obviates the need for bl2_get_ns_mem_layout platform API. BL2 calls the bl2_get_bl31_args_ptr function to get a reference to bl31_args structure. It uses the 'bl33_meminfo' field of this structure to load the BL3-3 image. It sets the entry point information for the BL3-3 image in the 'bl33_image_info' field of this structure. The reference to this structure is passed to the BL3-1 image. 2014-02-17Setup VBAR_EL3 incrementallyAchin Gupta
This patch ensures that VBAR_EL3 points to the simple stack-less 'early_exceptions' when the C runtime stack is not correctly setup to use the more complex 'runtime_exceptions'. It is initialised to 'runtime_exceptions' once this is done. This patch also moves all exception vectors into a '.vectors' section and modifies linker scripts to place all such sections together. This will minimize space wastage from alignment restrictions. Change-Id: I8c3e596ea3412c8bd582af9e8d622bb1cb2e049d
2014-02-17Move translation tables into separate sectionJeenu Viswambharan
This patch moves the translation tables into their own section. This saves space that would otherwise have been lost in padding due to page table alignment constraints. The BL31 and BL32 bases have been consequently adjusted. Change-Id: Ibd65ae8a5ce4c4ea9a71a794c95bbff40dc63e65
2014-02-17Add Firmware Image Package (FIP) driverHarry Liebel
The Firmware Image Package (FIP) driver allows for data to be loaded from a FIP on platform storage. The FVP supports loading bootloader images from a FIP located in NOR FLASH. The implemented FVP policy states that bootloader images will be loaded from a FIP in NOR FLASH if available and fall back to loading individual images from semi-hosting. NOTE: - BL3-3(e.g. UEFI) is loaded into DRAM and needs to be configured to run from the BL33_BASE address. This is currently set to DRAM_BASE+128MB for the FVP. 2014-01-20remove empty definition of display_boot_progress()Achin Gupta
This patch replaces the empty definition of display_boot_progress() in bl2_main.c with a weak definition. The former allowed bl2 to use the early_exceptions(). It is possible to do that with a simple weak definition as well. Change-Id: Idb3f425a5e265f3579b638e3d26bd8c9bb78f80d
2014-01-17Change comments in assembler files to help ctagsJeenu Viswambharan
Ctags seem to have a problem with generating tags for assembler symbols when a comment immediately follows an assembly label. 2013-12-12Remove useless copies of meminfo structuresSandrine Bailleux
Platform setup code has to reserve some memory for storing the memory layout information. It is populated in early platform setup code. blx_get_sec_mem_layout() functions used to return a copy of this structure. This patch modifies blx_get_sec_mem_layout() functions so that they now directly return a pointer to their memory layout structure. It ensures that the memory layout returned by blx_get_sec_mem_layout() is always up-to-date and also avoids a useless copy of the meminfo structure. Also rename blx_get_sec_mem_layout() to blx_plat_sec_mem_layout() to make it clear those functions are platform specific. Change-Id: Ic7a6f9d6b6236b14865ab48a9f5eff545ce56551
